This tour will start and end in Nairobi. You will be picked up at the airport and start the drive to Samburu NP. The tour will be covering Samburu, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru & Maasai Mara, home to the Wildebeest Migration, the 7th Wonder of the World. It is home to Kenya's Big 5: The Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, and Buffalo. You will be able to enjoy a first class game viewing experience here in the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the other premier parks. A combination of luxury and adventure.

Itinerary

1

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

You will be met by our representative and the driver guide at the airport in in Nairobi and after greet and assist, you travel by road to Kenya’s northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannas watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa Oryxes. Overnight at Lodge/Tented Camp.

Day 2: Explore Samburu National Reserve

Full day spent in Samburu Game Reserve. And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp/lodge later in the evening.

Day 3: Samburu to Ol Pajeta

Today we travel to the exotic Sweetwaters Tented Camp just minutes from Mt Kenya in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve. Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns. Here too, the Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we meet the primates face to- face. Our camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe, and myriad plains game. This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor. Our tents at Sweetwaters Camp will remind us of this bygone era.

Day 4: Ol Pajeta to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast before 6:30am, depart Ol Pejeta Conservancy and head to Lake Nakuru. Arrive Nakuru check in at the hotel thereafter lunch. An Afternoon game drive is planned. Nakuru’s Southern white rhino is a must see in the park, as they are often located around the lake grazing grass. Return to the hotel before dusk for dinner & overnight.

Day 5: Explore Lake Nakuru National Park

Full day spent game view in Lake Nakuru National Park. This Park covers 180 sq km. The park is home to warthogs, waterbuck, buffaloes, reedbucks, and the occasional leopard. White and black rhinos were introduced to the park some years ago and you may find white rhino at the southern end. The park has also retained its reputation as an ornithologists’ delight with more than 400 species of bird found here. Full board accommodation included in the tour price Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast, depart for Masai Mara Game Reserve. Wherever you go in the Mara you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, wildebeest. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos also exist in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but are still reasonably common. The ultimate action here is without doubt the annual wildebeest exodus in July, August and September when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October. Full board accommodation is included in the tour price. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge/Camp.

Day 7: Explore Maasai Mara

After breakfast, head out for full day game drive toward the Mara River. Carry picnic lunch box to have lunch by Mara River. Return to the hotel for dinner & overnight

Optional Activities:

1. Early morning balloon safaris. You will be dropped off at the takeoff site by the balloon company and picked up from your landing site by our safari driver. Balloon safaris are a romantic and evocative way of experiencing the wilderness of East Africa, as you gracefully and silently fly over the plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. Typically, a balloon safari begins at break of dawn, about 6 am, and lasts for around 1 hour, during which you will fly over parts of the vast Masai Mara plain, seeing the magnificent wildlife below, spread over several square kilometers of the reserve. Balloon flights are available daily in Masai Mara and take off from designated sites where the disturbance to animals is kept to a minimum. The flight is followed by a champagne breakfast “in the bush”, with a well laid out seating arrangement and waiters on hand, to give you a fitting final to your memorable flight in the wild. Then you will start a game drive again with our driver guide. Picnic lunch offers wonderful scenery. The lunch box is packed by the hotel you stay. After lunch you will continue with game drive. The cost is USD450 per adult.

2. In the afternoon game drive, you can visit a village of the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience. The cost is USD 25 per adult.

Day 8: Explore Mara Plains

After breakfast, head out for full day game drive toward the Mara River. Carry picnic lunch box to have lunch by Mara River. Return to the hotel for dinner & overnight.

Day 9: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

After leisurely breakfast, depart for Nairobi to arrive early afternoon. Lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant and later, depending on your flight schedule, you will be dropped at the airport or at your hotel.

Important information

Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles within East Africa Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 24″x 17″x 7″ are impossible to store in vehicles.
And on aircraft and should not be used. (Baggage and personal effects are at owner’s risk throughout the tour and baggage insurance for members is strongly advised).
All Covid-19 guidelines observed in our safari vehicles (sanitizer & masks provided) and the camps/lodges have put in place the guidelines as per the ministry of health directives. Passengers arriving in Kenya will be asked to present a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate & yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are among the best places in Africa to spot the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino. While sightings of leopards and rhinos can be more rare, our experienced guides maximize your chances by knowing where to go and when.

  • Pack lightweight, neutral-colored clothing, a warm layer for chilly mornings, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, a camera, and comfortable walking shoes. Don’t forget a refillable water bottle, personal medications, and travel documents. Many lodges offer laundry services, so you can pack light.

Tanzania: You can apply online at eservices.immigration.go.tz or get a visa on arrival at major entry points. Always check the latest requirements based on your nationality before you travel.

  • The best time for safari in both Kenya and Tanzania is during the dry seasons — June to October and January to February. These months offer excellent wildlife viewing, especially the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara (Kenya) and Serengeti (Tanzania) between July and October. However, both countries are year-round destinations with different highlights in each season.
